MARCH 2017 THE WOLVERINE 107 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (21-5 OVERALL, 10-2 BIG TEN) Head coach Kim Barnes Arico recorded her 100th win at Michigan with an 80‑54 victory over Northwestern Jan. 25, becoming the fastest coach in school history to reach the century mark and just the sec‑ ond to do so … Guard Kysre Gondrezick scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds against the Wildcats to earn United States Basketball Writ‑ ers Association Freshman of the Week accolades, making her the first player in program histor y to earn a national weekly honor … Junior guard Katelynn Flaherty scored 27 points in an 86‑70 win at Il‑ linois Feb. 1, moving her into second place on the all‑time U‑M scoring list with 1,740 ca‑ reer points … On Feb. 6, Michi‑ gan checked in at No. 21 in the Associated Press poll, marking the program's first national ranking since 2013 … With their 72‑62 victory at Purdue Feb. 8, the Wolverines reached the 20‑win plateau faster than any team in school history and did so for just the sixth time … Sophomore guard Nicole Munger recorded her first career double‑double (12 points and 10 rebounds) in a 75‑66 win over Wisconsin Feb. 12 … The Wolverines moved up to No. 20 in the Feb. 13 AP poll. MEN'S GOLF The Wolverines finished in seventh place at the Big Ten Match Play Championship Feb. 10‑11 in Palm Coast, Fla. … Senior Tom Swanson and junior Kyle Mueller each went 3‑0 at the event … Mueller never trailed, while Swanson clinched a win over Michigan State on day two with his 1‑up victory over Michael Sharp. WOMEN'S GOLF Michigan kicked off its spring season at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic Feb. 12‑14 in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico … Through two rounds, the Wolverines were tied for fifth out of 15 teams … Sophomore Elodie Van Dievoet posted a career‑best 3‑under‑par 69 on day two — the lowest round by a Wolverine to date — and was part of a three‑way tie for second, just three shots off the tournament lead. MEN'S GYMNASTICS (3-4 OVERALL, 2-3 BIG TEN) Though Michigan fell 430.050‑400.800 at No. 1 Oklahoma Jan. 28, it set a new team‑best on vault (70.950) … Sopho‑ more Emyre Cole led the Wolverines in three different events (floor, vault and high bar), and captured the vault title (15.000) … Despite ultimately falling 422.200‑404.950 at No. 6 Ohio State Feb. 4, Michigan set new season bests for pommel horse (66.000), still rings (66.700), parallel bars (68.350) and team total. WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS (6-2 OVERALL, 4-1 BIG TEN) The Wolverines defeated No. 19 Illinois 197.050‑195.300 in its home opener Jan. 22 … Senior Nicole Artz stole the show, becoming just the ninth gymnast in U‑M history to score a perfect 10.0 on floor, and the first to do so since Joanna Sampson in 2014 … Michigan posted a season‑best road score of 196.475 in a victory at Maryland Feb. 5 … Dur‑ ing a 196.025‑195.625 triumph at Michigan State Feb. 11, Artz won three events and posted a season‑high all‑around score of 39.575 … U‑M was listed No. 8 nationally in the Feb. 13 College Gymnastics Association rankings. ICE HOCKEY (9-14-3 OVERALL, 2-8-2 BIG TEN) Michigan went 1‑3‑2 during a six‑game stretch from Jan. 20 to Feb. 11 … The Wolverines sandwiched a series split against then‑No. 11 Ohio State Feb. 3‑4 with a pair of series losses (one tie and one loss) to Michigan State … U‑M was tied for last place in the conference standings with the Spartans and had plummeted to No. 41 in the PairWise Rank‑ ings … The Wolverines lost to the Spartans at Yost Ice Arena 3‑0 Jan. 20 and 4‑1 Feb. 11, marking the first time since the 1988‑89 season they were swept at home by MSU … Fresh‑ man forward Jake Slaker continues to lead the team in points with 19 (six goals and 13 assists) … Junior defenseman Sam Piazza has the most points of any defenseman on the team with 13 (six goals and seven assists) … Junior forward Tony Calderone, who still leads the team in goals scored (10), returned from injury for the Michigan State series Feb. 10‑11 … Calderone had missed the previous four games … Sopho‑ more forward Cooper Marody has had a big impact since returning from an academic eligibility issue that sidelined him for the first semester … Marody had nine points in just 10 games played, including a six‑point weekend against the Buckeyes … Michigan will go on the road for series at No. 17 Wisconsin Feb. 17‑18 and at Ohio State Feb. 24‑25, before ending the regular season at home against No. 5 Minnesota March 3‑4 and No. 10 Penn State March 10‑11. MEN'S LACROSSE (2-0 OVERALL) The Wolverines kicked off their season Feb. 4 with a 13‑8 win at Cleveland State, in the Vikings' first‑ever NCAA game … Sophomore attacker Brent Noseworthy scored six goals, and senior attacker Ian King recorded four assists, both of which tied school records … The Maize and Blue defeated Lafayette 17‑6 Feb. 11, with the 17 goals marking the third‑ most in a single game in program history. WOMEN'S LACROSSE (0-2 OVERALL) Michigan opened the season with an 11‑8 loss at Oregon Feb. 4 and an 18‑6 defeat at home against James Madison Feb. 11 … Freshman midfielder Molly Garrett scored her first career goal in the loss to the Ducks.
