NOTABLE • Born July 31, 1998. • Corey's father, Orlando Malone, coaches the defensive line and scout teams for Saint Joseph. • Malone-Hatcher has already graduated from high school and is enrolled as a freshman at Michigan. 2017 PROJECTION Malone-Hatcher will likely arrive at U-M around 250 pounds and will need a year to bulk up before hitting the field. A redshirt season is expected, but Malone-Hatcher's versatility is something that could get him a look early. THEY SAID IT Rivals.com Midwest Recruiting Analyst Josh Helm- holdt: "Malone-Hatcher took reps at both defensive end and linebacker throughout his career. Defensive end still looks like the likely position for him in college. Malone-Hatcher showcases a great first step and has good speed to the quarterback despite adding 15-20 pounds since his sopho- more season ended. He's still mastering the finer points of the position, but the raw physical tools that have attracted coaches are still present." Saint Joseph High Assistant Coach Orlando Malone, Corey's father: "Having a dad as a coach was a blessing and a curse for Corey. Once he decided he wanted to play college ball, that instantly changed his life. Most kids enjoyed sum- mer vacation, but Corey's summers were spent camping for football. People view football in southwest Michigan as 'less competitive' so camping hard was crucial. This meant that Corey's season started in March/April. These things required Corey to grow up quickly. Having to make sacrifices at an early age matured him and gave him a unique perspective on life. Battling injury, battling the negative voices of those in the community, battling the perception of southwest Michigan football talent, battling to be the first kid to gradu- ate early from Saint Joseph, his work ethic is outstanding. In our family we say being able to 'work hard' is a blessing and Corey is truly blessed." COREY MALONE-HATCHER STRONGSIDE DEFENSIVE END 6-3 • 245 SAINT JOSEPH H.S. SAINT JOSEPH, MICH.
