www.BLUEANDGOLD.com MAY 2017 7 FAN FORUM least 95 percent of the rest of the Football Bowl Subdivision. There are always going to be "lines" that distinguish who Notre Dame can't recruit (and sometimes keep). However, other than USC, the Irish consistently out-recruit vir- tually everyone else on the schedule. What can't continue happening is losing games, especially at home, to Syracuse, UConn, Tulsa, Navy, South Florida, Northwestern, Louisville, Duke, Virginia Tech or even a 3-9 Michigan State team last year. And you can't be going 2-5 the last seven years versus Stanford, which also has those "lines" without the overall football history. THE PRICE IS NOT RIGHT This centers around the cost of sea- son football tickets and the price of attending games starting in 2017. A former prominent Notre Dame football player is a good friend who has had four box seats for several years. He said they want $16,000 for the season tickets and he is not going to renew. He will get tickets through the Monogram Club if he wants to go to games. Another friend and his brother are both Notre Dame grads and have two sets of four tickets. They are contem- plating not renewing one set. A client of mine and Notre Dame grad has four season tickets that have been in his family for 45 years. He is upset and may not renew. I met a guy at a bakery in West- ern Springs this morning. He had on a Notre Dame jacket on and I asked him if he goes to games. He graduated from ND in 1982 and the family has had four season tickets for 50 years — and they are not going to renew. I have a friend I grew up with in Dixon, Ill., who graduated from ND in 1963. Similar story. Now they are charging different prices based upon your seating in the stadium. Short sighted. These are just a few people I have contacted. I don't know if director of athletics Jack Swarbrick has a sense of how many people are upset who have been loyal Notre Dame grads. Perhaps he doesn't care. This after a four-win season. That is about as dumb as the Chicago Bears who raised ticket prices after a three-win season. Where is the common sense? It is all about the almighty dollar and the greedy world of today. The world is crazy! Pat Bales Chicago PREVIEW REVIEW I just wanted your staff to know how much I enjoyed the position- by-position "2017 Spring Football Preview" on pages 23-31 of the April issue. That is a terrific format, and one you could consider reprising at the bye week in October and at the end of the season. Kudos to the person who created it!
