www.BLUEANDGOLD.com NOV. 20, 2017 9 UNDER THE DOME 1 Through 10 games entering the Nov. 11 weekend hockey series versus Penn State, Fighting Irish senior forward JAKE EVANS ranked No. 1 in the nation in scoring (18 points) and assists (14) for No. 6-ranked Notre Dame. Earlier this month, Evans also was one of 20 candidates selected for college hockey's 2017-18 Senior CLASS Award. That honor is awarded annually to a men's ice hockey senior student-athlete who excels both on and off the ice, and has notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. 2 Notre Dame 6-6 senior forward Bonzie Colson had the second-most votes on the five-man 2017 Associated Press Preseason All-America Team, with 47 out of a possible 65. He also was the lone senior on the team after averaging 17.8 points and an ACC-best 10.1 rebounds per game while compiling a league-best 19 double-doubles in 2016-17. The top vote getter was 6-7 Michigan State sophomore Miles Bridges with 61. Rounding out the team were Arizona 6-5 junior Allonzo Trier (39 votes), Villanova 6-3 junior Jalen Brunson (33) and Missouri 6-10 freshman sensation Michael Porter Jr. (30). 3 Baltimore Orioles rookie outfielder/first baseman Trey Mancini, who starred at Notre Dame from 2011-13, was named one of three finalists for 2017 American League Rookie of the Year, which was to be awarded Nov. 13. While it was a foregone conclusion that the New York Yankees' Aaron Judge would be the recipient, Mancini and Boston's Andrew Benintendi were the other two finalists. In 147 games played, Mancini batted .293 (with 159 hits) and finished with 24 homers and 78 RBI. The home run total was the third most by an Orioles rookie, behind only Cal Ripken Jr. (28 homers in 1982) and Eddie Murray (27 in 1977), both of whom won the AL Rookie of the Year award. 28 Times ESPN's College GameDay was at a Notre Dame football game after it set up shop in Miami for the Nov. 11 clash between the No. 3 Fighting Irish and No. 7 Hurricanes. Notre Dame had the original GameDay Nov. 13, 1993 in the No. 1 versus No. 2 showdown with the top-ranked Florida State Seminoles, which the Irish won, 31-24. Entering last weekend, Notre Dame was 12-15 on GameDay, 8-10 on the road and 4-5 at home. Including Miami, its last eight appearances were away from home. The last time GameDay was at Notre Dame was Oct. 13, 2012, a 20-13 victory versus Stanford. 38.8 Rating of Notre Dame senior left guard Quenton Nelson by Pro Football Focus through the first nine games this season. That was nearly an astronomical 10 points higher than the next highest rated guard, who had a 29.0. Pro Football Focus grades every play in every game. 254 Points scored in his career by Notre Dame junior kicker Justin Yoon — quietly moving him into fifth place on the all-time Notre Dame chart. His 12 points Nov. 4 versus Wake Forest (two field goals and six extra points) moved him past four players. The only four ahead of him are 1982-85 running back Allen Pinkett (320), 1989-92 kicker Craig Hentrich (294), 2011-14 kicker Kyle Brindza (288) and 1995-98 running back Autry Denson (282), the current Fighting Irish running backs coach. 16,000,000 Dollars spent in South Bend, Ind., on a col- lege football weekend game played at the University of Notre Dame, according to research by ESPN college football writer Adam Rittenberg. On non-football weekends, the average falls to $1.5 million. BY THE NUMBERS ✦ Sponsored by: NotreDameTickets.com PHOTO BY JOE RAYMOND
