www.BLUEANDGOLD.com NOV. 20, 2017 25 3-9-3 Record Notre Dame owns since the start of the Associated Press poll in 1936 against teams that were undefeated in the month of November, including the loss to Miami. The three November victories against an unbeaten team all occurred on the road: 1957 at No. 2 Oklahoma (7-0) to end its NCAA record 47-game winning streak, 1982 at No. 1 Pitt (31-16) and 1988 at No. 2 USC (27-10), the latter en route to the national title. The three ties were at Army in 1946, at Michigan State in 1966 and at USC in 1968. The Irish are now 0-2 against Miami in such situations, also losing 24-0 in 1987, when the Hur- ricanes went on to win the national championship. 4 Consecutive games that Miami has forced four turnovers — after Notre Dame had only two in the previous six contests, dating back to the 38-18 win at Michigan State Sept. 23. The four Fighting Irish turnovers were the most they had in a game since the five committed in a 19-16 victory versus a 3-9 Boston College team at Fenway Park on Nov. 21, 2015. 9 Tackles for loss by Miami against Notre Dame, including five sacks, which is right at its aver- age of 8.8 per game that ranked No. 1 in the na- tion. The previous week, Wake Forest also entered the Notre Dame game leading the nation in tackles for loss, but dropped in that category after record- ing only four for minus-12 yards versus the Irish in the 48-37 defeat. 12-16 Record Notre Dame owns on ESPN's College GameDay, dating back to the original broadcast versus No. 1 Florida State in 1993. It is 8-11 in road games and 4-5 at home. The Irish also are 3-6 when Lee Corso picks them to win — as he did versus Miami. 14 Consecutive wins by Miami, the longest active streak in the Football Bowl Subdivi- sion. The Irish — once the kings of ending winning streaks — have not halted a double-digit winning streak since the 1998 opener, a 36-20 win versus Michigan, which won 12 in a row the year prior while sharing the national title with Nebraska. 33 Point differential in Notre Dame's 41-8 defeat. It was the second-worst loss to the Hurricanes in the 27-game history of the series, be- hind only the 58-7 debacle to end the 1985 regular season. It also was the second-worst margin of defeat under eighth-year head coach Brian Kelly, surpassed only by the 49-14 setback at USC in 2014. In the nine games between Notre Dame and Miami in which both were ranked, this 33-point win was the largest margin of victory, eclipsing the 24-0 victory by the No. 2 Hurricanes versus the No. 10 Irish in 1987. 100 Games coached by Brian Kelly at Notre Dame after the loss at Miami dropped him to 67-33 in his Fighting Irish career. The record for most games coached at Notre Dame is 132 by Lou Holtz, who was 100-30-2 in his 11 seasons from 1986-96. 1977 Was the last season Notre Dame defeated Miami (48-10) on the Hur- ricanes' home field, en route to the national title. The Irish then lost five in a row from 1981-89 in the now torn down Orange Bowl while getting out- scored 166-32, or an average of 33-6 and scoring only one touchdown on offense in those five out- ings. The 41-8 defeat was even above that average. BY THE NUMBERS BY LOU SOMOGYI 2,999 Career rushing yards by junior running back Josh Adams after picking up 40 on 16 carries at Miami. He is one yard away from becoming the sixth Notre Dame player to reach 3,000. No. 5 on the all-time Irish rushing chart is Ju- lius Jones (1999-2003) at 3,018, while Darius Walker (2004-06) is No. 4 with 3,249. PHOTO BY BILL PANZICA
