EVENT RECAPS 2012 VIRGINIA ROWING NATIONAL CHAMPIONS' RING CEREMONY In September, the Virginia ON THE ROAD WITH VIRGINIA ATHLETICS FALL SOCIAL FOR SUFFOLK AREA The Virginia Athletics Foun- dation held its first-ever Fall Social for Suffolk area donors and fans on Sept. 12. Speakers for the evening included head men's tennis coach Brian Bo- land and head baseball coach Brian O'Connor. Guests attend- ing included VAF members, student-athlete alumni and UVa fans from the Suffolk, Franklin, Peninsula and Tidewater dis- tricts. By having the social in the fall, guests enjoyed a special op- portunity to hear from coaches whose teams are on the road during the regular VAF Spring Tour. After enjoying cocktails and hors d'oeuvres while mingling with the coaches and VAF staff, guests were treated to special presentations by Coach O'Connor and Coach Boland. Each provided updates on their recruiting efforts and gave a sneak preview of their upcom- ing seasons. Several guests com- mented, "This was the best So- cial we have ever had!" VAF provided an autographed item to any non-member who became a member at the Social. Thank you to these new mem- bers for helping us build the Foundation! A special thanks goes to VAF member Billy Cho- rey who spent countless hours helping spread the word about the event and provided a v-sabre coffee mug for each guest. Athletics Foundation coordinated the official Ring Ceremony to honor the 2012 Virginia rowing national champions. The event was held at Darden and brought together team members, coaches, managers, families, and rowing supporters to celebrate the team's success. Guests enjoyed dinner, observed the 2012 rowing high- light film, and applauded the players, coaches, and managers as they received their national championship rings. Head coach Kevin Sauer, athletics director Craig Littlepage and 2012 se- nior captains Sarah Borchelt and Marty Kuzzy were among the speakers. The Virginia Athletics Foundation was honored to be a part of such a monumental event, and looks forward to celebrating many more national champion- ships in the future!
