EVENT RECAPS VAF CHARLOTTESVILLE LUNCH The Virginia Athletics Foun- dation kicked off its first local event of the 2012-13 academic year with a Charlottesville Lunch on Sept. 28. VAF mem- bers and student-athlete alumni in Charlottesville and the sur- rounding communities enjoyed an opportunity to gather with other Cavalier fans at the John Paul Jones Arena. An all-athletics highlight video energized the crowd for the upcoming year while Craig Littlepage and Dirk Katstra provided athletics and fund- raising updates. The program finale included special guest speaker Coach Brian O'Connor who shared insights into the baseball season and program developments. To hear Coach O'Connor's presentation in full, visit the Recent News & Up- BENEFIT TOURNAMENT AT THE FOUNDRY GOLF CLUB The 2012 Virginia Athletics Founda- tion Golf Tournament was held at the Foundry Golf Club in Richmond on Oct. 8. This year's annual fundraiser was coordinated by Bob Mizell, Coley Wortham and the VAF staff to benefit the University of Virginia men's and women's golf programs. The tourna- ment raised over $18,000 for the golf programs. Each of the 18 teams played along- dates section on the VAF web- site at virginiaathleticsfounda- tion.com. VAF provided an auto- graphed item to any non-mem- ber who became a member at the Lunch. Thank you to these new members for helping us build the Foundation! The winning team included Tom Cherry, Larry Dillon, Joe Latchum, Paul Mauk and Mac McLaughlin, a fourth-year golfer from Ohio. Tony Markel and members of the VAF Board generously sponsored this year's lunch. The Cocktail Reception was sponsored by Bill Goodwin and Coley Wortham. Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's fundraiser for the golf programs.
