MARCH 2018 ■ 69 ■ BASKETBALL RECRUITING ing him to shoot the jumper a little bit more. He is really good at attacking and getting downhill and getting to the free throw line." Maxwell is the son of former Florida Ga- tors star Vernon Maxwell, who also played in the NBA from 1988-2001 before retiring at age 35. The elder Maxwell averaged 12.8 points and 3.4 assists per game in 855 career NBA contests, and had 21 points in game seven of the 1994 NBA Finals to help the Houston Rockets top the New York Knicks 90-84 to win the title. Vernon Maxwell played for former NC State head coach Norm Sloan while at Flor- ida. The staff also included former Wolfpack point guard Monte Towe. Tristan Maxwell would be keenly interested in the Gators if they ever offer. "I would try and break my dad's records," Maxwell said of the possibility of playing at Florida. "He thinks he is better than me. "He has stopped playing with me when his knee blew out, but I was also beating him too." Maxwell said his father has helped prepare him for pressure-packed situations, which explains the poise the sophomore displays on the court. Maxwell played with the Chris Paul All- Star's 15s squad last year and has noticed his development since them. "I have improved a lot and I know how to take people off the dribble more," Maxwell said. "With CP3, I was just running around screens and shooting." ■ Securities offered through Raymond James Financial Services, Inc., member FINRA/SIPC.
