Maxwell is the son of former Florida Ga- tors star Vernon Maxwell, who also played in the NBA from 1988-2001 before retiring at age 35. The elder Maxwell averaged 12.8 points and 3.4 assists per game in 855 career NBA contests, and had 21 points in game seven of the 1994 NBA Finals to help the Houston Rockets top the New York Knicks 90-84 to win the title.
