fan forum Heisman Balance Needed This was a recent letter I wrote to Mr. William J. Dockery, president of the Heisman Trophy Trustees, prior to the Dec. 8 Award ceremony. Dear Mr. Dockery: I have been a big college football fan my entire life and enjoy it much more than the sterile NFL. However, I have some issues with the Heisman Trophy award and believe it is losing the luster it had in the past. Brian Kelly recently said you might as well just give it to an offensive player and call it an offensive award. He was obviously supporting Manti Teo from his team. However when you have only one defensive player to ever receive the award, something is wrong. This has become just a glamour award with a narrow thought process. I was watching the postgame coverage with my two sons ages 12 and 9 and both of them referred to the Irish as we. I had heard them call the Irish many names in their young lives, but never we. That word was music to my ears. I would like to thank the current players and coaching staff for helping me pass on my passion for Notre Dame football. I think next season a family trip to South Bend will be in the cards!
