42 THE WOLVERINE SEPTEMBER 2022 BY CLAYTON SAYFIE M i c h i g a n 's 2 0 2 1 c l a s s watched from afar during the pandemic and a dismal 2020 U-M season, but it stayed strong, intact and motivated to make a difference. Star-studded at the top, the group has already proven to have some hidden gems, like three-stars Andrel Anthony, Ja'Den McBurrows and Rod Moore at wideout, cornerback and safety, re- spectively. Six players burned their redshirts in 2021, proving to be too good to keep off the field on a cham- pionship team, and more will step into prominent roles this coming year. Here's a view of each member of the Wolverines' 2021 class: Recruiting Name Pos. Stars ANDREL ANTHONY WR ★★★ Showed flashes of high-level play as a freshman, including posting 165 re - ceiving yards and 2 scores on 6 catches versus Michigan State and scoring U-M's lone touchdown in the College Football Playoff against Georgia. He finished with 12 grabs for 248 yards and 3 touchdowns for the year. Anthony is a breakout can- didate and is drawing comparisons from position coach Ron Bellamy and head coach Jim Harbaugh to the program's all- time leading receiver, Braylon Edwards. RAHEEM ANDERSON OL ★★★★ Played in one game and redshirted his first year. Currently is fighting for a two- deep position on the depth chart at the interior lineman spots. KECHAUN BENNETT EDGE ★★★★ Played in one game and redshirted last season. He has work to do in order to climb the pecking order at edge. RAYSHAUN BENNY DT ★★★★ Appeared in three games and made 3 tackles in 2021 while retaining his red- shirt. He stood out in the second half of the Big Ten Championship game versus Iowa, notching 2 stops on 3 defensive snaps. He's slated to receive backup time at defensive tackle this fall. JUNIOR COLSON LB ★★★★ Appeared in all 14 games with seven starts last season, finishing fourth on the team with 61 tackles. He added 0.5 sacks, 3 passes broken up, 3 quarterback hurries and 1 fumble recovery. He was named a Freshman All-American by the Maxwell THOSE WHO STAY Michigan's 2021 Class Has Stuck Together And Shined 2021 CLASS REVIEW Donovan Edwards might be the Wolverines' most versatile offensive threat this season. As a freshman in 2021, he compiled 439 all-purpose yards while scoring 2 rushing touchdowns and 1 TD apiece receiving and passing. PHOTO BY PER KJELDSEN
