SEPTEMBER 2023 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 5 college sites. He still manages TheWolverine.com. • Chris Riffer — Chris served as the managing editor of The Wolverine for two stints totaling almost 15 years. He was very organized and a diligent editor. I enjoyed Sundays during football season, when we would meet at the office to edit articles for the upcoming issue and share our thoughts on how the Wolverines performed. • Jeanette Blankenship — Jeanette has de- signed the pages of The Wolverine for over 15 years, oversees our digital editions, helps with marketing and assists with customer service. She has been critical to our success and a pleasure to work with. • Austin Fox — Austin started as an intern and didn't take advantage of some of the opportuni- ties we provided him. We gave him a second chance, and he earned a full-time job. He was a great teammate with a positive, can-do attitude and a photographic memory of Michigan sports. • Jerry Hanlon — The former offensive line coach for the Wolverines during the Bo Schem- bechler era was a regular contributor to The Wolverine for years, providing his analysis of how Michigan played in its previous game. • Doug Skene — A former offensive lineman at Michigan and in the NFL, Doug has been a major contributor to our website and webcasts for years. He has a gift for providing football analysis. • Bruce Madej — The sports information direc- tor at Michigan when we launched The Wolver- ine, Bruce was a great friend of the publication, always offering ideas and providing help. • Fritz Seyferth — Fritz was heading up the ath- letic development office, and several years after we started The Wolverine, he began providing subscriptions to the organization's top donors. • Dave Ablauf — Dave has had many roles in athletic communications and is now an associate athletics director handling football communica- tions. He has been an invaluable friend of The Wolverine. • Our current staff — reporters Clayton Sayfie and Anthony Broome, recruiting reporters EJ Hol- land and Zach Libby, columnist Drew Hallett and designer Chris Miller — along with John, Chris and Jeanette — make up one of the best overall groups we have ever had at The Wolverine. Many other individuals have helped us as em- ployees, members of the athletics department and, most importantly, customers. * * * For almost two years after selling my company, I have stayed on as the publisher for the five print properties that On3 bought, while our four web- sites moved into the On3 network. With my 73rd birthday coming in October, it's time to let the next generation take over. I am passing my management duties over to Mark Panus, the current (and former, 1994- 97) managing editor of The Wolverine, who is well suited for the publisher's role. I will stay on to help with copy editing on a part-time basis. I have been very fortunate to make a living combining two of my passions — publishing and sports — and I have been extremely fortunate to have done that at Michigan. My love affair with Wolverine sports started in 1989, has grown stronger through the years and will continue to my last breath. Thank you for your continued readership and support of The Wol- verine and The Wolverine.com, and Go Blue! The College Sports Publishers Association, made up of magazines and newspapers covering over 50 schools, hosted a maga- zine awards program in the mid-2000s. We entered the competition three times, winning first place in multiple categories: General Excellence twice, Layout once, Football Game Coverage once and Best Annual twice.
