SUMMER 2024 31 Our student-athletes are engaging in summer internships, various forms of employment and other enriching experiences. If you are employing a student-athlete in any manner, please be aware of the following requirements: • A student-athlete must be compensated for work actually performed. • Compensation must be commensurate with the going rate in the locality for similar services. • Compensation cannot be provided to the student-athlete for his or her reputation, fame, or personal following that they may have ob- tained because of their athletics ability. If you are going to engage in a name, image or likeness opportu- nity with a student-athlete, the opportunity likely differs from tradi- tional employment opportunities. Please email athleticscompliance@virginia.edu if you have any questions about name, image or likeness questions or issues. Celebrating 2024 Student-Athlete Graduates The Virginia Athletics Foundation and the Athlet- ics Academic Affairs Office honored fourth-, fifth- and sixth-year graduating student-athletes on Fri- day, May 17 in Leonard Sandridge Hall at John Paul Jones Arena. Student-athletes were joined by their families, coaches, faculty and academic advisors for a breakfast event to recognize their outstanding accomplishments both on and off the field. Among over 175 graduates, 40 earned their master's de- gree and 136 completed their bachelor's degree. As of late April, this graduating class contributed to 7 NCAA National Championships and 14 ACC Championships. On behalf of all Virginia head coaches, Fralin Family Head Football Coach Tony Elliott provided congratulatory wishes for the Class of 2024 and thanked their families for their longtime support. Elliott noted the significant impact the graduates have had on their coaches and sport programs, emphasizing the importance of the family culture within athletics which allowed athletes and coaches to help each other grow. Each sport took memo- rable pictures with their teammates and coaches, and all student-athletes received an honor stole to distinguish their contributions to Virginia Athletics as they walked down the Lawn on graduation day. Congratulations Class of 2024 — you are now Cavaliers for Life! COMPLIANCE CORNER
