36 NOV. 22, 2025 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED GAME PREVIEW: SYRACUSE wanted to run it up on the ground, this is an oppo- nent it most definitely could do so against. In a span of four of five games since the start of October, Notre Dame averaged at least 5.5 yards per carry. In three of those games, the Irish's yards per carry average was at least 6.5. Syracuse has a couple linebackers with 54 tack- les apiece in redshirt junior Gary Bryant III and freshman Antione Deslauriers, but it's a case of "somebody's got to tackle the other guys." That's still only 5.4 tackles per game, and where are those tackles being made? Several yards downfield? This segment is called On Paper because that's what we're doing here; looking at each team's per- sonnel in specific matchups and lining them up. It's without question that Notre Dame has a definitive edge when running the ball in this football game. Advantage: Notre Dame NOTRE DAME PASSING GAME VS. SYRACUSE PASS DEFENSE You could pretty much copy and paste everything you just read about the Notre Dame running game versus the Syracuse run defense and put it down for the Notre Dame passing game versus the Syra- cuse pass defense. OK, fine. We'll follow the same format just to hammer the point home. On one hand, you've got the best pass-efficiency quarterback in the history of Notre Dame football in redshirt freshman quarterback CJ Carr and the best pass catching corps Marcus Freeman has had in his head coaching tenure in South Bend.
