football recruiting ROUNDUP Recruiting Notes • Fort Wayne, Ind., safety Drue Tranquill committed to Purdue July 23, and then added an offer from Notre Dame Aug. 2. The three-star prospect has made countless visits to South Bend over the past year, and the Irish could flip the nation's No. 35 safety, who is projected as a middle linebacker by Notre Dame's staff. The 6-2, 215-pound Tranquill is also listed as the No. 7 recruit in the state of Indiana by 247Sports. • Notre Dame continues to sit in great shape with the nation's No. 28 overall prospect, defensive tackle Thomas Holley of Brooklyn, N.Y. The 6-4, 290-pounder has narrowed down his focus to seven schools, and the Irish are firmly in the mix. He will take an official visit to South Bend during the upcoming season. Holley is a five-star recruit, the No. 4 defensive tackle in the country and the No. 2 player in New York, according to 247Sports. • Fresno, Calif., athlete Michiah Quick informed BlueandGold.com that he will be in South Bend for an official visit when Notre Dame plays USC Oct. 19. The nation's No. 85 overall prospect, No. 8 athlete in the country and No. 8 recruit in California, according to 247Sports, is being recruited to play wide receiver for the Irish due to his explosive, play-making abilities on offense. Notre Dame continues to sit in good shape with him. • Fort Lauderdale, Fla., wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie recently named a top five of Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Michigan and Rutgers, but the Irish hold a very strong lead for his services. As a junior, the 6-3, 250-pound prospect registered 80 tackles, including 13 hits for loss with eight for sacks. • Wellington, Fla., offensive tackle and Irish target Kc McDermott, the younger brother of Notre Dame graduate assistant Tyler McDermott, was named a USA Today Preseason Offensive First-Team AllAmerican. The 6-6, 285-pound recruit, who has started since his freshman year, is currently committed to play for the Miami Hurricanes. • Norcross (Ga.) High is ranked No. 6 overall in the USA Today preseason top 25 poll. Top Notre Dame linebacker target and 247Sports five-star Lorenzo Carter is the backbone of the Norcross defense.
