Holtz took his Irish teams to Cul‑ ver Military Academy those two years, although it wasn't neces‑ sarily the proverbial silver bullet that revived the program after a 6-5-1 season in 1994. Notre Dame opened 1995 with a 17-15 loss at home to Northwestern, and it had to stage a late rally the next year to win the opener at Vanderbilt, 14-7.
