Michigan had fallen back in Kinnel's mind — both Arkansas and Kentucky offered him earlier in the process than the Maize and Blue, and had jumped ahead of U-M. However, when U-M joined the Razorbacks and Wildcats on his offer list, the Wolverines wasted no time in reclaiming the top spot. Kinnel will play safety for Michigan, even though it's a relatively new position for him. He's made the fulltime transition this fall after previously lining up at cornerback. The shift has meant a slight dip in his stats — Kinnel has 15 tackles through the first three games of his junior year — but a greater overall impact on the game.
