In his rookie season, Messner set the Michigan single-season record with 11 sacks, a mark that stood for 11 years, and he added seven in his sophomore season, 10 in 1987 and eight in his senior year to finish the program's alltime leader in QB takedowns with 36 (a mark that still stands and outpaces No. 2 Brandon Graham by 6.5 sacks). The Hartland, Mich., native also holds the record for career tackles for loss (70), while his 26 tackles for loss in 1988 rank second behind only linebacker Shawn Crable's 28.5 in 2007. A 49-game starter, the defensive tackle helped Michigan to a 38-8-2 mark and was part of three bowl wins — the 1986 Fiesta Bowl, 1988 Hall of Fame Bowl and 1989 Rose Bowl, while also capturing Big Ten championships in 1986 and 1988. A four-year starting point guard for the Wolverines from 1985-88, Grant was first-team All-Big Ten in his junior and senior years, earning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors both seasons. One of five players in school history to score 2,000 points or more, Grant currently sits fourth all time with 2,222 points. He still ranks first in assists with 731 and first in steals with 300. Grant started 128 of 129 games, and leading the Maize and Blue to a 100-29 record and four straight NCAA Tournaments, helping U-M advance to the Sweet 16 in 1988. The only cross country athlete in school history to claim an individual national title, McGregor took first place at the NCAA Championships in 1998, and added a pair NCAA track championships, claiming first in the 3,000-meter run and distance medley relay at the 1998 NCAA Indoor Championships. An eight-time NCAA All-American during her track and field/cross country career, she helped the Maize and Blue to back-to-back Big Ten titles in the indoor and outdoor track seasons in 1998-99. In cross country, she was the league's Athlete of the Year in 1997 and 1998, placing first at the conference meet both seasons, and its Freshman of the Year in 1995.
