Students not happy with the present arrangement have been offered a full refund on their season ticket purchase. Students purchased the season packed for 2013-14 at a rate of $200, averaging out to $11.76 per game. Michigan indicated it jettisoned consideration of cutting off sales to freshmen and splitting season tickets when contemplating what to do about the student ticket demand. Like in football, student seating for basketball involves a general admission arrangement, with no individual reserved seats. Mitch McGary Earns Preseason All-America Honors Sophomore Mitch McGary's coming-out party during last spring's NCAA Tournament continues to draw notice. USA Today Sports, in its 2013-14 basketball preview magazine, named the 6-10 forward a first-team All-American. Two Wolverines earned a spot on the honor squad, with fellow sophomore Glenn Robinson III garnering honorable mention. McGary joined Creighton senior Doug McDermott, Oklahoma State sophomore Marcus Smart, Kentucky freshman Julius Randle and Kansas freshman Andrew Wiggins on the first team. The magazine also pegged McGary to help the Wolverines to a third-place finish in the Big Ten. It flipped spots for the two Wolverines in its preseason All-Big Ten squad, Robinson accorded first-team honors and McGary making the second team. Freshman Zak Irvin earned notice as U-M's "Top Newcomer To Watch" among a recruiting class given an A-. The outlet has Michigan the No. 8 team in the nation entering the season, behind No. 1 Kentucky, Michigan State, Louisville, Duke, Kansas, Florida and Arizona, and ahead of Syracuse and North Carolina in the Top 10. McGary earlier landed on the Sporting News All-America first team, depicted on the regional cover for its college basketball magazine. He garnered first-team status along with McDermott, Smart, Wiggins and Duke freshman Jabari Parker. Sporting News pegged McGary as the Big Ten's top player, with Robinson ranked fifth. Irvin and fellow true freshman Derrick Walton Jr. earned notice as the league's No. 2 and No. 3 newcomers, respectively, and John Beilein as the Big Ten's third-best coach. The Wolverines earned the No. 7 spot in the magazine's preseason national rankings, behind Kentucky, Michigan State, Louisville, Duke, Arizona and Kansas, and ahead of Syracuse, North Carolina and Oklahoma State. McGary averaged 14.3 points and 10.7 rebounds last year, excelling in the tournament run that has skyrocketed Michigan season ticket sales. U-M has sold more than 10,000 season tickets for the upcoming campaign.
