Entering her senior year, Sappingfield has excelled, winning the U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award (2013) and earning two Academic All-Big Ten honors (2012-13). Although she would never have thought when she first arrived in Ann Arbor she would be immersed in Spanish classes, she is now looking for opportunities to extend her experience with the language past her undergraduate studies. "I have looked into study abroad programs," Sappingfield said. "It is hard when you have softball, and you're going through training in the summer and playing up until June. But I am looking into law schools that have externship programs where you study abroad for a year. I have looked into a lot of Spanish-speaking countries, and that's something I'm very interested in." Sappingfield took the LSAT test this summer and is currently researching law schools.
