He had taken a trip to Wisconsin Sept. 6, and Arkansas is also in the mix for the 6-3, 315-pounder. Patterson is from the same high school as NCSU junior defensive tackle T.Y. McGill, but his good friend and teammate Kenwick Sanders has verbally committed to Wisconsin. Patterson is ranked by Rivals.com as a three-star prospect, the No. 29 defensive tackle in the class and the No. 44 player from Georgia. ■ Linebacker Four-star athlete Jimmy Bayes from Immokalee (Fla.) High verbally committed to nearby South Florida in January, but he is still open to other schools and told Rivals.com in October that NC State is recruiting him the hardest. The Pack is pursuing Bayes (6-3, 200 pounds) as a linebacker. Miami, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Louisville, USC and Wisconsin are also involved. Rivals.com ranks him as the No. 10 athlete in the country and the No. 36 recruit in Florida. Through seven games as a senior, the hard-hitting Bayes had notched 55 tackles, six stops for loss, one sack, six forced fumbles, four quarterback hurries and a blocked field goal. NC State is in the top three for Xavier Preston, a 6-2, 220-pound three-star prospect from Jensen Beach (Fla.) High.
