FOOTBALL RECRUITING As of the middle of this February, Notre Dame had 84 players on football grant-in-aid, one short of the allowed NCAA allotment of 85. Here is the breakdown by position and class. The number in parentheses for those other than fifth-year seniors or freshmen denotes years of playing eligibility remaining. Quarterbacks (3) Senior — Everett Golson (2) Sophomore — Malik Zaire (4) Junior — None Freshman — DeShone Kizer Note: None of the three took a collegiate snap in 2013. Running Backs (5) Senior — Cam McDaniel (1) and Amir Carlisle (2) Junior — Will Mahone (3) Sophomore — Tarean Folston (3) and Greg Bry- ant (4) Freshman — None Note: McDaniel (705 yards rushing) and Folston (470) finished first and third in rushing in 2013 … This was the first recruiting cycle since 1992 Notre Dame did not sign a running back. (In 2000, Vontez Duff played running back in high school like Justin Brent did this past season, but was immediately moved to cornerback.) Receivers (11) 5th-Year Senior — Luke Massa Senior — DaVaris Daniels (2) and Josh Atkinson (1) Junior — Chris Brown (2) and C.J. Prosise (3) Sophomore — Corey Robinson (3), James Onwualu (3), William Fuller (3) and Torii Hunter Jr. (4) Freshman — Justin Brent and Corey Holmes Notes: Daniels currently is not enrolled for the spring semester because of an academic issue, a la Everett Golson during the 2013 fall term, but has stated he plans to be with the team this fall … Massa, the team's holder on extra points and field goals, also could play quarterback in a pinch. Tight Ends (5) Senior — Ben Koyack (1) Junior — None Sophomore — Mike Heuerman (4) and Durham Smythe (4) Freshman — Tyler Luatua and Nic Weishar Note: Koyack caught 10 passes for 171 yards and three scores last season while complementing Troy Niklas at the position. 2014 Scholarship Breakdown By Class Incoming freshman DeShone Kizer of Toledo (Ohio) Catholic Central will be one of three sig- nal-callers on the 2014 roster, none of whom took a collegiate snap in 2013.
