BASKETBALL RECRUITING game and has sneaky athleticism on drives to the cup." Cal Poly, College of Charleston, Florida Atlantic, Montana, North- eastern, Pepperdine, Rhode Island, St. Mary's and Utah State were the biggest names recruiting him until Dayton watched him play about a month ago and, shortly after, ex- tended him a scholarship offer. The Flyers had been showing the most interest before U-M came call- ing, and while Michigan did offer, Dawkins was still slated to see Day- ton and possibly Marquette before deciding. "It's going to come down to my relationship with the coaches, how I see myself getting along with the players," he said before his Michigan visit. "I'm going to be spending most of my time with them. But I know Michigan is a great school." He said he'd lean on his father and others when it's time to decide. The U-M coaches are still looking at other 2014 targets, including 6-5, class of 2014 shooting guard Ryan Taylor of St. John's Northwestern Military Academy in Delafield, Wis. Taylor, a Michigan City, Ind., native, averaged 20.5 points per game last season. Michigan assistant Jeff Meyer saw Taylor at his school April 10. Taylor's biggest offer is Ohio University, but he did visit U-M for the Wisconsin game and is a product of the SYF AAU program that produced Wol- verines Mitch McGary, Glenn Rob- inson III, Max Bielfeldt and Spike Albrecht. St. John's Northwestern Military Academy has reportedly produced 16 Division I players in the last three years, sending five to high-major programs. Finally, Tavarius Shine of Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia is another name to watch should any of the others not pan out. Meyer was spotted at his school, and the 6-6 wing has upside, though his big- gest offers are from Houston, James Madison and Rutgers. "Tavarius Shine has really hit his stride," Bossi reported from the Na- tional Prep Showcase last November in New Haven, Conn. "The Texan is an athletic and physically tough wing who has expanded his game. Previously, the three-star had seemed like more of an undersized power forward, but he looks to have a legit wing game now. "He was hitting threes off the drib- ble, defended well and was produc- tive all over the floor in a 21-point, Aubrey Dawkins "It's going to come down to my relationship with the coaches, how I see myself getting along with the players. I'm going to be spending most of my time with them. But I know Michi- gan is a great school."
