BASKETBALL RECRUITING Creighton and has quite a few offers, but I think he likes Michigan. If they like him, I think he'll come up and look at it. "A big part of this is relationships, getting to know the people you're about to be around the next four years. I think Michigan is a great situ- ation for him because of how Coach Beilein spreads them out. There's a lot of motion, a lot of opportunities to shoot threes, and I think Matt is one of the best shooters in the country. He's pretty athletic and has a 41-inch vertical. His body is just not mature enough yet." But it's getting there, and colleges are taking notice. McQuaid has a visit coming up with Texas, and he's seen Alabama and SMU, but he'd like to start trimming his list. "I want him to narrow it down to the three, four or five schools that have shown the most interest in him, and then he'll just know in his gut where he wants to go," his father said. "I think Michigan would be a nice situation. "I love the way [Beilein] coaches, and I think he'd be a great guy to coach Matt." ❏ On The Web For regular reports on basketball recruiting, plus videos of all the top prospects in the nation and Michigan's commitments, visit TheWolverine.com. CLASS OF 2015 NOTES • Michigan is evaluating new targets in the 2015 class, and one of the latest to surface is Esa Ahmad. The 6-7, 210-pound forward out of Cleveland Shaker Heights is Rivals.com's No. 98 player nationally and holds offers from Dayton, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland and others. Ahmad lists offers from Indiana, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Clemson, West Virginia, Xavier, Cincinnati and Rutgers. He is also getting strong interest from Michigan, where he plans to visit in the near future. Several Big Ten schools are in the running and Ahmad said he likes the confer- ence, but he's wide open right now and does not have a list of favorite schools. He said he hopes to make his college choice sometime later in this summer prior to his senior season. U-M should have a real shot. • The Wolverines are also eyeing potential transfers that would have to sit out a year, but who would be eligible to play in 2015. West Virginia sophomore Eron Harris (6-3, 195) averaged 17.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in 2013-14, and he's looking to play closer to his Indianapolis home. He hasn't started tak- ing visits, but Michigan is interested. U-M has also inquired about Nevada transfer Cole Huff (6-8, 205). Huff, a soph- omore, averaged 12.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game and shot 40.3 percent from three-point range last year. Michigan, Iowa, Creighton and Vanderbilt are among the schools in which he's interested.
