MICHIGAN FOOTBALL where he made the next nine starts. Glasgow spent most of the spring moving around the line, and he did not come out with the first-team of- fense in the spring game — though that does not necessarily mean he won't be in the starting lineup at Notre Dame in week two. During the spring game, Glasgow worked at right tackle with the sec- ond-team offense and played left guard — his original position in 2013 — with the third-team offense. Redshirt junior center Jack Miller, who started the first four games last season before being replaced at center by Glasgow, took reps with the first- team offense during the spring game. RUNNING BACKS FIGHTING FOR CARRIES There is perhaps no position battle as wide open as running backs for the Wolverines. And, after spring practice concluded with the annual spring game, Michigan is still search- ing for its No. 1 back. Redshirt junior Justice Hayes and sophomores Derrick Green and De'Veon Smith are still vying for car- ries. Redshirt freshman Ross Doug- las, who switched from defensive back to running back in the spring, and redshirt sophomore Drake John- son, who was No. 2 on the depth chart last season before tearing his ACL in the season-opening game versus Central Michigan, are still hoping to get into the action, too. Although many believed it to be a race between Green and Smith, Hayes has forced his way into the conversation with a very strong spring. Hayes has compiled just 20 rushes for 89 yards and a touchdown in his Michigan career, including just two carries for six yards last season. But the coaches have liked what they have seen from the fourth-year ju- nior. "Justice has a knowledge some of the others don't with his reads," Michigan running backs coach Fred Jackson said in a radio interview. "He's going to be a factor. "I've had three guys play really well this spring, including Justice Hayes. If I had to start a guy, I know I'd have to list a guy, but I don't want to do it right now. If we played a game, I'd play three guys. Because they all earned it." Green, who was listed 5-11, 240 as a freshman, has slimmed down and is now 227 on the official spring roster. "I feel a lot better, faster, more ex- plosive," Green said. "I just knew I couldn't come in the same weight I did last season. I feel better, and I'm going to come out and be productive for my team. "I talked to the strength and condi- tioning coach [Aaron Wellman] about what I needed to do to get down the weight. I knew that 220 was where I wanted to be for this season. I did what I had to do to get down to it. Like I said, I feel great." Green got the second most carries by a running back last season, after leading rusher Fitzgerald Toussaint, who graduated. Green amassed 83 attempts for 270 yards (3.3 yards per
