2014 BASKETBALL RECRUITING ISSUE
BY ANDY REID
Kameron Chatman — the highest-
rated four-star prospect, at No. 25
nationally, in the 2014 class according
to Rivals.com) — took a long, wind-
ing road that eventually led him to
Ann Arbor.
As a sophomore at Jefferson High
School in Portland, Ore., in 2012,
Chatman was a standout player,
earning high praise and interest on
the recruiting trail.
The next year, he moved to Long
Beach, Calif., to stay with his godfa-
ther, Sharrief Metoyer. Unfortunately,
since Metoyer was also the coach of
Chatman's club travel team, Chat-
man was ruled ineligible to play var-
sity basketball in 2013.
After moving back to Portland for
his senior year, Chatman opted to
enroll at a small, highly regarded
school, Columbia Christian — not
only to play basketball but also to
get the best education possible. He
wanted to be as well-rounded a
player and person as he could be,
before going to the next level.
"That's something we always
preach. Without academics, there is
no basketball," Columbia Christian
coach Aaron McKinney said. "Kam
is a smart kid. He challenges himself
in the academic areas, and it's im-
portant to him that he stays on top
of that."
Not only did Chatman excel in
the classroom last year, he helped
