OLYMPIC SPORTS Finn opened the championship meet with a title in the 10,000-meter run on the first day of competition in domi- nant fashion. She led the race wire to wire, finishing in 32:41 — 1:18.37 ahead of Wisconsin's Emma-Lisa Mur- phy, who took second place. Finn crushed the conference meet record by almost 12 seconds and topped the Michigan program stan- dard by 24 seconds. On the final day of competition, Finn set another Big Ten meet re- cord, winning the 5,000-meter race in 15:48.90. She finished 12.33 seconds ahead of second-place Rachele Schul- ist of Michigan State. "I was really happy with Erin," Henry said. "I thought the kid from Michigan State might have had her number in the 5K when she pulled out in front of her, but she found some energy and she got her rhythm. Being able to win the 5K after such a great performance in the 10,000 meters was quite impressive. "She's a phenomenal kid, and the interesting thing about her is that she's very soft spoken and very easy going. She's only going to get better, and we're excited about her future." Finn is the third Wolverine in pro- gram history to win the 5,000- and the 10,000-meter runs in the same season. Mindy Rowland (1989-90) and Re- becca Walter (2006) also accomplished the feat. WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM FALLS TO USC IN NCAA TOURNAMENT The Michigan women's tennis team, which is enjoying the best level of sustained success the program has ever seen, was eying a fifth consecu- tive trip to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 when it traveled to Los An- geles for the first two rounds of the 2014 NCAA Tournament May 9-10. After making quick work of Fresno State (4-0) in the first round, the Wol- verines needed to topple host USC in the second round to once again reach the second weekend of tournament play. Michigan, which came into the match with a 20-2 record when win- ning the doubles point, started off strong against the Trojans, taking the doubles point when junior Emina Bektas and senior Brooke Bolender, who were ranked as the No. 18 dou- bles team in the country, defeated USC's pair of Giuliana Olmos and Kaitlyn Christian 8-5, while junior Sarah Lee and sophomore Amy Zhu topped USC's Zoe Scandalis and Brynn Boren 8-5. Lee then gave the Wolverines a 2-0 advantage, making quick work of USC's Gabriella DeSimone (6-2, 6-2). Unfortunately, the Wolverines lost the next four points. "USC is a great team," Michigan head coach Ronni Bernstein said. "We knew we were going to have to play really well today, top to bottom, if we were going to be able to beat them at their place. It is tough to go on the road and win, and we needed a com- plete effort today to do that. "I am really proud of this team and what they were able to accomplish this season. They worked so hard all
