Max Pacio- retty and Montreal faced Carl Hagelin and the New York Rangers with a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals on the line. Pacioretty scored the game-winner in both an opening series sweep of Tampa Bay and in game seven of the Eastern Conference semifinals against Boston. The former came with 42.6 sec- onds remaining of a 4-3 victory, the latter in the second period of a 3-1 win. "That's our measuring stick," Pa- cioretty told the Associated Press of the Bruins. "That's always been that rivalry and that bad feeling between Boston and Montreal. Not just between the cities, but in the rooms, too." Now in his sixth NHL season with the Canadiens, Pacioretty ranked fourth in the league with 39 goals during the regular season and led the NHL with 11 game-winners. He had registered three goals and four assists in the Canadiens' first 12 playoff con- tests, notching four points total in the fifth, sixth and seventh games of the Canadiens' semifinal series with Bos- ton. He didn't tally a point in a 7-2 loss to the Rangers in game one of the Jake Long • NFL ESPN's Adam Caplan stated on ESPN SportsCenter in early May that the Rams expect the former U-M tackle (ACL, MCL surgery in January) to be ready for training camp. While Long remains a candidate to open camp on the physically unable to perform list, it might only be precautionary, Caplan added. Trey Burke • NBA The former Michigan point guard finished third in NBA Rookie of the Year voting behind Philadelphia's Michael Carter-Williams and Orlando's Victor Oladipo after averaging 12.8 points and 5.7 assists per game for the Utah Jazz. The New York Knicks' Tim Hardaway Jr. finished fifth. Larry Foote • NFL The former Michigan and longtime Pittsburgh linebacker, re- leased by the Steelers after the season, signed a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals just before the NFL Draft May 8-10. The Cardinals did not select an inside linebacker with any of their seven draft choices, going with Foote and bringing in undrafted rookies Jonathan Brown and Glenn Carson.
