2014 BASKETBALL RECRUITING ISSUE Doyle was the first to commit, pledg- ing in March 2013. He "allegedly" measured in at 6-10, 255 in his shoes re- cently, Alexander reported after speak- ing to Doyle's father (a former Detroit Pistons draft pick who enjoyed a long career overseas). "He's a contact-seeking big man who creates his own leverage with his back to the basket," Alexander said. "The game has changed so much with re- gards to bigs where you don't see that as much anymore. He has the ability to face the basket, whether in the high post or on the blocks. Though he re- ceived a lot of double and triple teams he still showed the ability to make the right basketball play and find people." The challenge he'll have moving for- ward is to find the stamina to run the floor and to stretch his shooting range, but his foundation — "coupled with a seven-foot dad," Alexander said with a grin — is cause for excitement. Bossi sees potential in the big man. "With his injury [a broken foot that limited him to eight games his ju- nior year] and him not playing a ton of AAU ball, we weren't able to take a good look at him, but he has a big body, is fairly athletic, doesn't mind a little contact and works hard," he said. Portland (Ore.) Columbia Christian's Chatman, considered the gem of the class, was one spot away from being a Rivals.com five-star talent. He aver- aged 18.0 points and 8.6 rebounds to help lead the Knights to a Class 1A state championship despite missing large portions of many games due to blowouts. "With Glenn making his decision and losing Nik, he becomes someone who will hopefully be able to integrate into our core returning group," Meyer said. "We have a nice, experienced nucleus coming back, and he has the ability to see to the floor, and can score and rebound. His versatility is hope- fully going to help make an immediate impact." Alexander labeled him the "Swiss army knife" of the group and, even more flattering, referred to him as his Jalen Rose at last year's Michigan Elite Camp due to the southpaw's passing ability. "Kam has always been very versatile and very skilled," Bossi said. "He can be a guy who can play as a small four, like they did with Robinson III. He's not as athletic, but he's definitely more skilled, a better passer and playmaker who can shoot it." Sacramento (Calif.) Capital Chris- tian's Wilson might be the ideal four- man for the college game right now, he added, and perfect for Beilein if he 2014 Basketball Recruiting Class Name Pos. Ht. Wt.
