2014 BASKETBALL RECRUITING ISSUE Class Of 2016: More Top Targets • Cassius Winston (6-0, 170, Detroit, U-D Jesuit High School, Rivals.com's No. 30 rising junior nationally): Some believe Winston's services may be a two-horse race between Michi- gan State and Michigan, with MSU out front, but U-M has closed the gap. The Spartans have already ex- tended an offer, while the Wolver- ines are hot on their tail and could extend after the summer. Michigan assistant Bacari Alexan- der has been a regular at Winston's games and forged a bond with him. Head coach John Beilein has also seen Winston play in person, back in January. Winston hold offers from Michi- gan State, Iowa State, Iowa, UMass and Colorado, and has visited MSU, Georgetown, Michigan and Ohio State. "I like what Michigan is doing with their program right now," he said. "They are a great school on and off the court and are doing big things." • Tyus Battle (6-5, 180, Glad- stone, N.J., Gill St. Bernard's School, Rivals.com No. 11 rising junior nationally): Battle, a shoot- ing guard, has struggled in AAU play this spring, but he is good friends with Derryck Thornton Jr. and planning to visit with his friend for at least three days and partake in the Michigan Elite camp in June. It's pos- sible he picks up an offer there. Battle likes Syracuse and has visited, and he will also see Ohio State, Virginia and Villanova in the coming months. He and his family keep in close contact with the U-M coaches. Duke, Kentucky and Michigan are showing serious in- terest.
