FOOTBALL RECRUITING mix, meaning Michigan may have an uphill battle to pique his interest. Brian Cole • Saginaw (Mich.) Heri- tage • 6-2, 190 Four-star, No. 9 athlete and No. 99 overall player nationally Cole is a multi-positional threat who could succeed at safety (his pre- ferred position) or wide receiver in college. He's new to the latter posi- tion, playing mostly running back — where his team needs him most — at the high school level. Tennes- see, Ohio State and Michigan State are providing competition to U-M, but the in-state schools have a slight early advantage. John Reid • Philadelphia St. Joseph's Prep • 5-10, 175 Four-star, No. 12 cornerback and No. 119 overall player nationally Reid is a teammate of Michigan commit Runyan, and that connec- tion will give him the opportunity to take his first U-M visit to the Wolverines' camp this summer. He's a big hitter in the secondary, and although he has to work on his hip flexibility, his straight-line speed has seen Penn State, Ala- bama, Notre Dame and others enter the fray. Special Teams Commits: 1 Needs: 0 Michigan needed a kicker in the 2015 class, and the Wolverines got their man in Massillon (Ohio) two-star Andrew David. The 5-8, 170-pounder is the nation's No. 7 kicker according to Chris Sailer Kick- ing, and will be able to step in when Matt Wile graduates at the conclu- sion of 2014. David is also capable of punting (U-M also graduates starter Will Hagerup from that role), but is ex- pected to focus on kicking first, while walk-on Kenny Allen punts the ball. That means the Wolverines won't need to recruit another specialist un- til the 2017 class. ❑ The Wolverines are battling the likes of Alabama, Notre Dame and Penn State to land Philadelphia St. Joseph's Prep corner- back John Reid.
