INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS "We are pleased to be a part of the Hockey City Classic this season in its return to Soldier Field and the city of Chicago," said Berenson. "It will be exciting for our play- ers and our loyal Michigan hockey fans to witness this historic outdoor game with all-important Big Ten points on the line." Michigan and Michigan State kicked off this outdoor craze with the "Cold War" at Spartan Stadium, playing to a 3-3 tie on Oct. 6, 2001. Since then, U-M has played Wisconsin in Camp Randall Stadium in February 2010; hosted MSU in The Big Chill at The Big House, setting an outdoor attendance record with 104,173 on Dec. 11, 2010; played Ohio State at Cleveland's Progressive Field in January 2012; and then played Western Michigan and Michigan State at Comerica Park in Detroit in December 2013. MEDALIST Competing in the 2014 FILA Junior World Championships in Croatia, sophomore wrestler Adam Coon earned a pair of bronze medals Aug. 6-10. He took third place with a 4-1 record in the 120kg/264-pound Greco-Roman tournament, including a 45-second pin of Japan's Arata Sonodo in the bronze-medal match, and then posted a 4-1 record in the same weight class during freestyle matches four days later. Like he had in Greco-Roman, Coon pinned his final competitor, finishing off Turkey's Yusuk Emre Dede in 2:18. COMING HOME A four-time All-American and four-time Big Ten cross country champion (1993-95, '97), Kevin Sullivan is returning to his alma mater to coach the men's cross country team, U-M announced July 17. Sullivan will also serve as an assistant coach on the track team. "It is an honor and privilege to be coming back to the University of Michigan," Sul- livan said in a release. "As a former Wolverine student-athlete, I truly understand the pride and passion one has to compete with the block M on their chest and I intend to bring the same pride and passion to my coaching. "I have been blessed over the past 20 years to have both been coached by and coached alongside some of the great distance minds in NCAA and international track and field, and I look forward to bringing real melding of coaching strategies to this program." A native Canadian, Sullivan competed in three Summer Olympic Games (2000, 2004 and 2008) and is the country's record-holder in the 1,500-meter run (3:31.71), mile (3:50.26) and 3,000-meter run (7:41.61). Sullivan has never been a head coach at the collegiate level, but was a volunteer assistant coach for the women's team at Florida State from 2007-13, the women's team at Illinois (2003-07), the men's team at Illinois (2002-03) and the men's team at Michigan (1999-2002).
