linemen make their way toward their plotting den, they
can't help but see former All-American and first-round
NFL Draft pick Jake Long depicted. The quarterbacks
pass by Tom Brady, and no doubt ponder his three
Super Bowl victories with the New England Patriots,
following a hard-fought battle to the starting job at
Michigan.
The remake of Schembechler Hall served many
practical purposes, providing necessary upgrades
in facilities. It also offered some stylistic cohesion,
the brick and glass exterior melding better with the
athletic campus surroundings. It now ties seamlessly
into the $26-million Al Glick Fieldhouse, Michigan's
cavernous indoor practice facility.
But there's no lack of symbolism, everywhere you
look. It starts with Schembechler, and continues to the
last winged helmet.
