end of nine of Huarte's passes is classmate Jack Snow, a converted halfback whose 217 yards are a single-
game school record. The two connect on Notre Dame's first and last touchdowns during the afternoon
on 61- and 42-yard tallies.
Defensively, the Irish set another school record when Wisconsin finishes with minus-51 yards on the
ground (still a school standard), while converted quarterback Tony Carey intercepts two passes.
So surprised and elated are the starved-for-success Irish players (who finished 1963 with five straight
losses) they give the dynamic 41-year-old Parseghian a victory ride off the field.

Notre Dame sophomore Raghib "Rocket" Ismail, fresh off an impact season during the national title run
his freshman year, cements his legend during No. 1 Notre Dame's 24-19 victory versus No. 2 Michigan on
a rainy afternoon in The Big House.
Ismail fields the second-half kickoff and returns it 88 yards for a touchdown to provide Notre Dame a
14-6 lead. It is the first time in 32 years Michigan yields a kick return for a touchdown.
After the Wolverines narrow their deficit to 17-12 with 12:46 left in the contest, Ismail grabs the kickoff
again and this time explodes for a 92-yard return to provide another two-score advantage. His exploits
put him on the cover of Sports Illustrated with an in-depth feature on his family's background.
"There are a lot of track people playing football," Notre Dame head coach Lou Holtz said after the vic-
tory. "But Rocket is a football player who also runs track."
