BY ANDREW OWENS Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei four- star shooting guard Rex Pflueger took an official visit to Notre Dame dur- ing the Michigan football weekend Sept. 5-7. The trip, coupled with an in-home visit from head coach Mike Brey and assistant Martin Ingelsby on Sept. 10, convinced Pflueger to become the program's third commitment of the 2015 class the next day. "I made up my mind during the visit and had such a great time there," he said. "I just ended up pulling the trigger after the in-home visit because it was the appropriate time. It's before [my senior] season, which I wanted to do." In addition to Pflueger, Notre Dame hosted two commitments: four-star small forward Matt Ryan of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., and three-star power forward Elijah Burns of Blairstown, N.J. Pflueger had a chance to jell with them and also to get to know La Porte, Ind., five-star guard Jalen Coleman, for whom the Irish lead. "It was the first time and it was a great time," Pflueger said of hanging out with his future teammates. "We got to know each other pretty well throughout the weekend and spent a lot of time together." As for persuading Coleman to be- come the fourth and final member of the class, Pflueger said: "I'll do what I can. I'm definitely going to do what's best for Notre Dame." The 6-5, 185-pound guard has drawn comparisons to current Irish senior Pat Connaughton because of his combina- tion of shooting ability and defensive prowess as a do-it-all player. "I just like how Coach Brey allows COMMITMENT PROFILE REX PFLUEGER Irish Land First Pledge From California In More Than Eight Years 247Sports ranks Pflueger as the No. 125 overall player in the country, the No. 35 shooting guard nationally and the No. 16 player in California.
