FOOTBALL RECRUITING DARRIN PAULO Sacramento (Calif.) Grant 6-5, 344 pounds Unranked nationally and No. 87 player in California Paulo will take an official visit to Michigan after the season, and Wis- consin is also in the mix for him. However, it seems most likely that he stays on the West Coast. The Wol- verines will have their work cut out in landing the massive player, who projects best at guard or right tackle. DEFENSIVE TACKLE Commits: 0 Needs: 0 Michigan landed two defensive tackles in the 2014 class in Salt Lake City Highland three-star Bryan Mone — who has already contributed on the field as a true freshman — and Naples (Fla.) Barron Collier High two-star Brady Pallante, a likely red- shirt during his freshman year. With those two adding to already-strong tackle depth built up in early classes under this coaching regime, U-M can take a pass in 2015. However, defensive tackle will be a priority for the 2016 class. DEFENSIVE END Commits: 1 Needs: 1 Darian Roseboro, a product of Lin- colnton (N.C.) High School, is North Carolina's top player, and the No. 6 defensive tackle and No. 42 overall player nationally. Despite his posi- tion ranking, the 6-4, 283-pounder will play strongside defensive end at Michigan. The Wolverines would still like at least one weakside defensive line- man in the class to provide a pass- rushing punch to Roseboro's versa- tile all-around game (though one in which he's most likely to hold the edge and possibly even slide inside on passing downs). JALEN BATES Kaplan (La.) High School 6-5, 235 pounds No. 30 defensive end nationally The three-star Bates has a family connection to Michigan — San Diego William Sweet of Jacksonville (Fla.) First Coast — Rivals.com's No. 24 offensive tackle and No. 236 overall player nationally — will take an official visit to Ann Arbor Oct. 11 for the Penn State game despite a verbal pledge to North Carolina.
