UNDER THE DOME 1 Notre Dame graduate so far in history who became a Major League Baseball manager — Craig Counsell on May 4 by the Milwaukee Brewers after Ron Roenicke was fired. Counsell starred at Notre Dame from 1988-92 before embarking on a 16-year MLB career, the last five (2007-11) with the Brewers. He played on two World Series champions and was named the 2001 NLCS Most Valuable Player. Counsell actually is the third former Notre Dame student to be hired as a manager. The others were National Baseball Hall of Famer Adrian "Cap" Anson, who attended Notre Dame's college prep school in the 1860s, and Joe Birmingham, who attended the school sometime in the late 1800s or early 1900s. 44 -Inch vertical jump by graduated 6-4 Notre Dame swingman PAT CONNAUGHTON at the 2015 NBA Draft Combine May 12-17 in Chi- cago. Although Connaughton had the lowest standing reach with just an eight-foot mea- surement, his leap unofficially tied current Miami Heat point guard Shane Larkin (2013) for the second-best ever at the Combine. Kansas' Kenny Gregory's 45.5 figure in 2001 is listed as the standard. Picked in the fourth round of the MLB Draft as a pitcher by the Bal- timore Orioles last year, Connaughton led the Irish in rebounding this past season with 7.4 boards per game.
