W
hen this year 's NFL Draft
entered the seventh and fi-
nal round May 2, two im-
pressive Notre Dame streaks
were in serious danger. A former Irish
player had not been selected yet,
which would mark the school's first
draft shutout since 1977 (although
they did have a supplemental draft
pick that year). If Ben Koyack did not
hear his name called, it would also end
the program's streak of five straight
starting tight ends being selected in
the event.
However, Koyack came off the
board with the 12th pick of the sev-
enth round, when the Jacksonville
Jaguars selected him 229th overall.
He is the 28th Notre Dame tight end
and 486th player in program history
to be selected in the draft, which ranks
second all time to USC. Including the
supplemental draft, the school has
produced at least one NFL Draft pick
