vershadowed amid the spring 2015 quarterback duel between
Everett Golson (who announced his decision to transfer May 7)
and Malik Zaire was maybe the best competition at Notre Dame
on offense — or maybe any position — that will continue going
into the fall.
Sophomore left guards Quenton Nelson and Alex Bars rotated every
other day at the starting spot vacated by fifth-year senior Nick Martin,
who is now back at center.
Meanwhile, Matt Hegarty — who started 13 games at center in 2013-14
— could have returned for a fifth season at Notre Dame. Instead, he opted
to enroll at a school still to be determined rather than switch back to left
guard.
