FOOTBALL RECRUITING BY ANDREW IVINS N otre Dame assistant coaches have seen the inside of more hotel rooms than their actual bedrooms the past month, and for good reason. With the spring evaluation period running form April 15 to May 31, the Irish coaches have been spotted re- cruiting in 23 different states since the Blue-Gold Game April 18. In addition to racking up the frequent flyer mile- age and rental car expenses, the staff has reworked its recruiting boards. The NCAA allows assistant coaches to make two evaluations –– one ath- letic and one academic –– per prospect during the annual assessment period. New Targets Emerge Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra three-star quarterback Khalil Tate — the No. 34 athlete nationally accord- ing to Rivals.com — is committed to Arizona, but he is open to hearing Notre Dame's recruiting pitch.
