FAN FORUM ness in Jason Sapp and Tom Loy, and Andrew is following in their footsteps. Since he started with us in January, he has quickly established himself as a fu- ture star in football recruiting coverage through his hard work, persistence, pas- sion and attention to detail. Jordan joined us in mid-February, moving to South Bend from Bowling Green, Ky. A Western Kentucky gradu- ate, he handled a website at his alma mater for two different networks. Jordan, who helps Andrew with foot- ball recruiting coverage and assists in other areas, brings a contagious enthu- siasm and desire to excel in his work. ✦ FROM THE WEBSITE In May, the BlueandGold.com message board was laden with topics about quarterback Everett Gol- son's decision to transfer. Many were of the opinion that it was a premeditated decision and may have taken away valuable reps from other signal-callers this spring. It elicited the question about when the decision to leave really occurred for Golson. Here were some thoughts. 4simm: When he saw Malik run the offense in the bowl win over LSU. College19: When he didn't start the bowl game, and Zaire didn't totally crap the bed Hendrix style, he knew he was done with Notre Dame. Golson should be thankful he got to earn a Notre Dame degree because he sure as heck won't be playing in the NFL. Mrwigglesby21: I disagree. I think Golson is a hell of a QB. Games 7-12 last year were nothing like his first 16 games at ND. I'm willing to say half of his turnovers could be placed on others, combined with the drop- off of the defense, spelled doom. Kid has a cannon, accuracy and mobile feet. He is slightly lacking in the mental — Zaire's demeanor is more preferred — and I suppose you could possibly question his character, but we are talking about a kid in college and I'm a believer that some folks pull their head out of their rear sooner, or later, than others. Golson will have a solid year somewhere and he will be drafted within the first 5 rounds. I was really hoping for a 65% Golson, 35% Zaire combo this year. But I do believe we can be successful with Zaire. And we are deep enough that if we have to go all Georgia Southern and not throw a pass should Kizer be forced to play, so be it. Irishdiego: My guess is that like in most big deci- sions, it was an iterative process that probably began sometime late in the season, picked up steam after the bowl game and was finalized after spring ball when he wasn't given the nod. Jerbach: When he came to the conclusion that it was no longer "his team." It would have been hard knowing that the others might feed more off of Zaire's obvious enthusiasm. It did appear that Golson "checked out" before the USC game. Zaire clearly got a more enthusiastic response and play from his teammates than Golson did. Kelly gave Golson every chance to "check back in" this spring and was very complimentary of Golson but maybe it didn't happen in his mind. The mental fragility that he showed this year was not on par with the strength he showed in coming back to school after being dismissed. Rhorn9975: As soon as he was certain he would be graduating at the end of this semester. If he weren't graduating he wouldn't be transferring no matter what happened last year or in spring practice. Jojoindy: The end of the ASU game. That guy was a mess mentally. Shamrockne: After the loss to a ranked Louisville team in Notre Dame Stadium on Senior Day. I think the whole world began to cave in on EG, beginning with the coaching staff and flooding the entire fan base. Losing a week later to USC in the LA Coliseum. The way the Notre Dame team played (lack of en- thusiasm); EG being replaced late in the first half after the game had been decided. Showed that EG the leader had checked out. Sure time away helped a little before the bowl game, but the damage was done and EG's days at Notre Dame limited after the Louisville loss.
