MICHIGAN IN THE PROS and will face Manningham and the Gi- ants in the NFC title game Jan. 22. Former U-M linebacker Prescott Bur- gess is on injured reserve for the Balti- more Ravens, who will face the Patriots in the AFC title game. The NHL FORMER U-M GOALIE anything. He's part of the team, and he cares a lot. That's why he made those comments." Cammalleri told reporters before the trade that he made the statements out of frustration. "It's an emotional game. Kane's two-minute goalie interference penalty wasn't punishment enough, Montoya told Newsday recently. Kane was hit by a defenseman but caught Montoya with a stick to the head, one of several incidents involv- ing goaltenders this year. "If you're telling me that a guy can lead with his stick like that, make contact to someone's head and all he gets is a two-minute penalty? And the goaltender's out two weeks? That's a pretty minor penalty for something like that," Montoya said. "I go down in my crease not expecting to get run over. No goaltender does. You have to be able to do that without thinking you'll get a stick to the face." Montoya was reportedly close to a return as of Jan. 17. He joins Detroit's Jimmy Howard in asking the league to examine increasing contact with goalies. "They've got to look at that situa- tion again," Montoya said. "There has to be a point where a guy who's driv- ing to the net has to be able to pull up and back off." CANADIENS TRADE MIKE CAMMALLERI Montreal traded former Wolverine Mike Cammalleri to Calgary Jan. 13, a day after his statement that the Ca- nadiens "play like losers." Montreal general manager Pierre Gauthier de- nied the move had anything to do with Cammalleri's comments. "No, not at all," Gauthier told the Canadian Press. "I didn't make a big deal about all that. There's emotion around the team, and somebody says something, I'd rather see emotion than people that don't care. "… He never asked to be traded or ting in 12th spot," he said. "It's not fun to lose. You always want to do more. That's all." He also said he loved playing for the Canadiens. "I've just built a house in Mon- treal," he said. "I've had somewhat of a love affair with the city. Things can change pretty quick, but not for me. I really enjoy it. My family loves it, and I really enjoy what it means to play for the Canadiens. I always have." Cammalleri spent the 2008-09 sea- son in Calgary, amassing 39 goals and 43 assists in one of his best years.
