Strengths: Dylan McCaffrey has the frame and arm to be a true pro-style
quarterback. Fortunately, he also has the athletic ability (no surprise given
his family's history of success in various sports) to be a run threat, as well. He's
comfortable under center and in the shotgun.
He can make all the throws, and has a good understanding of when to sling
the ball into a tight window, and when to put a little more air under it. He
scrambles while keeping his eyes downfield to make a passing play, but is will-
ing and able to get yardage on the ground if need be.
Areas Of Improvement: When putting air under the ball, McCaffrey at times
over-guides the ball, rather than just trusting his mechanics, leading to a bit
of a deliberate motion. That comes off as a slow release, and also sees him sail
passes when he's not throwing in perfect rhythm.
One problem is nothing of his doing: he makes it look easy on a down-to-
down basis, and that's often because it is. He plays alongside some of the best
talent in Colorado, and the playing field will be more level when he gets to
college.
Michigan Player Comparison: Drew Henson (1998-2000) is a lofty com-
parison for any quarterback prospect. One of the most naturally gifted quarter-
backs in U-M history, he was outstanding with his arm and legs, like McCaffrey.
