2016 BASKETBALL RECRUITING ISSUE guys learning how to play hard, play smart, being in the right spot at the right time … 'This is a different play call.' [A graduate transfer] should know all that stuff." The freshmen probably won't, but they've proven to be quick learners at the high school level. The first of the pledges, big man Jon Teske of Medina (Ohio) High was one of the Plan-A targets, committing in August 2014 over offers from Ohio State and others. Now 7-1 and 245 pounds, the four-star Teske — Rivals. com's No. 109 senior nationally — av- eraged 16.4 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.6 blocks in earning first- team All-Ohio honors in Division I. He recorded 1,130 points in a Medina County-record 97 games played and was a rim protector, altering many of the shots near the rim he didn't block. "He can block shots and really shoot the ball, and he provides good leadership," Beilein said. "What I like about him is he has good legs on him … he's not skinny in his legs, and his upper body is going to fill out. "He's got to get stronger in the up- per body to shoot hooks and play inside, but it grows in proportion. It's going to make him really good." His hands are good but can get bet- ter, Beilein noted. Added strength should help him become a better re- bounder, an area in which he needs to improve. "He's got to get better with it, but he does okay catching the ball," Beilein said. "Jon can change games. He's got small feet, and because of that he's very nimble. "He may be a little like [Iowa's] Adam Woodbury … we couldn't get around the ball screen on Woodbury. I think Jon can do similar things. He's a better shooter — not the rebounder Woodbury is yet, but a really good shooter." The first surprise of the class came April 15, 2015, and it was a big one, literally and figuratively. Onsted (Mich.)
