2016 BASKETBALL RECRUITING ISSUE which he's still working. He strug- gled from long distance at the In- dianapolis EYBL in late April and was shooting 26.9 percent from three- point range, but he's been an asset, The Family coach Mychal Covington said. "Someone put a lid on the basket last tournament, but he's playing well, playing a few different posi- tions, rebounding, running the floor and finishing above the rim," he said. "He's one of the top scorers on the team, one of the best rebounders and he's blocking shots. Coach Beilein likes what he can do." So much that the U-M mentor of- fered Cain following an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor April 27. Cain made the trip with his family, and Covington was also with them. "It was great," Covington said. "Everything went well. "Jamal is an even-keeled kid so he doesn't get too high or too low, but he was appreciative and grateful. There were a couple handshakes and hugs, and that was about it." Cain got the academic tour and details on how Michigan would use him if he committed. "His mom was very impressed," Covington said. "He'll take more vis- its most likely once the AAU season starts dying down. He'll narrow it down, find places he wants to take officials to. He may just go off unof- ficials, find out what he wants and likes, and his mom and him may make a decision before his senior year." Cain was named MVP of the G.R. Storm Classic, his first AAU tourna- ment of the year, but struggled a bit in front of Beilein at the first EYBL event in Brooklyn, N.Y., averaging 14.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game but making only 2 of 13 triples and racking up 14 turnovers against two assists. Florida and Cincinnati are the lat- est to inquire about the high-flying athlete, while Michigan State is also keeping a close eye on him. Xavier is currently his other big offer. Cain spends most mornings in the gym, Covington said, in an effort to improve, and Beilein is well aware. The two have hit it off and forged a strong relationship since. "They have continued to talk a lot," Covington said. The Wolverines appear to be in great shape. KYLE YOUNG, SF 6-7 • 190 Massillon (Ohio) Jackson Rivals.com No. 139 junior nationally Young is a three-star prospect … for now. His out- standing junior sea- son and spring — the latter with King James Shooting Stars AAU — will almost certainly propel him into the nation's top 100, especially after he received offers from Michigan State, North Carolina State and oth- ers to go with those from Michigan, Butler and many more. Young is still open in the recruiting
