(84 starts) and center field (37 starts).
Which is the more difficult position to
play and why, and what do you feel is
your best position?
Clement: "They're both difficult. You
have to be focused on every single pitch.
The most difficult part was switching be-
tween both positions and then having to
take reps from each spot during BP.
"I love switching. I'll play wherever
the coach puts me and whatever will help
the team."
Cavalier Corner: At Brighton High
School in Rochester, N.Y., you were a
two-time selection for the Bowman Cup
Team, an award that is presented to the
best hockey players from the Rochester
and Buffalo areas. What was the major
factor in your decision to give up hockey
after playing for four years and decide to
play baseball in college?
Clement: "I don't know if I was good
enough to play hockey in college. I've
played baseball since I was 2 years old. I
started playing hockey when I was about
6 and it was just a really great way to stay
in shape for the baseball season. You can
play baseball year-round."
Cavalier Corner: How heavily were
you recruited for baseball in high school
and what were the factors in your accept-
ing a scholarship from Virginia?
Clement: "I wasn't recruited that heav-
ily coming out of high school. Being from
the Northeast, you don't get that much
exposure. I received a few offers from lo-
cal schools and a few Division I schools.
"But when Virginia offered me a schol-
arship, I knew it was such a good school
and such a good baseball program that I
accepted it. It was my dream school."
