HEN BRONCO Mendenhall took over as the head
coach at Virginia, he was adamant that he wasn't
planning to watch film of his new players. He thought
the past needed to be left in the past. And so, when
spring ball began, he got his first real feel for what the team would
look like.
Without fail, one of those he kept noticing was the player in the
middle of the defense: third-year linebacker Micah Kiser.
"One or two practices in," Mendenhall recalled recently, "it just
didn't take long at all to notice him and have that appreciation.
I've said to the defensive staff numerous times, 'Man, he's a good
player.' That just seems to be coming out frequently."
