Cavalier Corner: The Cape Cod League
is considered the most prestigious wood-
bat amateur league in the country and this
summer you were voted the Most Valuable
Player after hitting .353 for Harwich. With
all due respect to the ACC, in what way did
it benefit you to be facing pitching of this
caliber on a frequent basis?
Clement: "The pitching in the Cape Cod
League was tremendous. I thought it might
have been a slight step above the ACC. In
the Cape Cod League, you're seeing the
best Friday and Saturday night starters.
"Seeing the best pitching possible only
can help me going into the upcoming sea-
son."
Cavalier Corner: One stat that jumps
off the proverbial page is that last season
for Virginia you struck out only once every
21.8 at-bats, which ranked fourth in the na-
tion. Have you always had that good knowl-
edge of the strike zone, and by extension
haven't chased pitches out of the zone, or
was this something you learned over time?
Clement: "For me, I'd say it was being
aggressive and hitting the first pitch that
was in the strike zone and not missing many
chances to put the ball in play. I love attack-
ing the first pitch."

sons, you've split time between second base
