Bill Lynch, born and raised in Charlottesville, Va., began his pilgrimage to UVA's Scott Stadium in the late 1940s/early 1950s with his dad, Bill Sr. He remembers fondly the play of Johnny Papit and Tom Scott. He also remembers attending basketball games in Memo- rial Gym when Buzzy Wilkerson was the superstar and later watched Barry Parkhill and Ralph Sampson in University Hall. At JPJA, he continues to support Virginia athletics and the men's basketball program with enthusiasm and excitement. But Bill notes, "Virginia baseball with coach Dennis Womack and now coach Brian O'Connor is the game most dear to his heart." Bill joined the VAF in 1972 and has been a loyal supporter of the Annual Fund and Endowment. He and his wife, Judy, are original Charter Endowment and Endowed Scholarship donors. Whenever there's a particular need, the VAF can count on their support — from the Scott Stadium Expansion and building of John Paul Jones Arena to the McCue Center and the softball field and Dav- enport Field renovations. Never having attended UVA himself, Bill definitely considers himself a true Wahoo along with Judy, who holds a Master of Education from UVA. Their daughter Monica has a BS in Architecture from UVA. Their son Darren attended JMU, but is most often at Virginia games with the family. Over the years, Bill and Judy and their family have taken many road trips together to cheer the Hoos to victory. Bill was there to see the ACC Men's Basketball Tournaments when Virginia was victorious in 1976 and in 2014. Other memorable UVA sporting events include Virginia football's win over Florida State in 1995 and the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. For 48 years, Bill and Judy and their family, which now includes their grandchildren, have followed the Cavaliers. The Lynches have been season ticket holders for football, men's and women's basketball and baseball for many years. "To say I am impressed with the progress and improvement of Virginia athletics over the years would be an understatement," Bill said. "They have built this program into one of the finest in the country, producing winners in the classroom and in athletics competition. "It is very difficult today to compete at the highest level in sports and academics without compromis- ing. Virginia athletics has been able to do that with their extraordinary student-athletes and top-notch athletics facilities. "I am proud to be a supporting member of VAF and to have watched as the university, Virginia athlet- ics and the VAF provide the opportunity for these young men and women to become winners and good citizens on and off the field. Go Hoos!" Bill Lynch joined the VAF in 1972, and he and his wife Judy have been season ticket hold‑ ers for football, men's and women's basketball, and base‑ ball for many years.
