be students at Notre Dame, let alone mem- bers of the football team. To physically attack a police officer, even while intoxicated, is — at least for me — so far outside the standards of personal conduct imposed by the university for its students (or any personal standard of con- duct) that no remedy short of separation from the university is appropriate. Similarly, making a sinister threat to a with being a student at Notre Dame, even if the student owns up to, and apologizes for, his conduct. These are such sad and regrettable incidents, and they tarnish the reputations of the two young men in- volved, as well as the university. Arlington Heights, Ill. police officer (twice) — "My people will get you" — is also beyond acceptable standards of personal conduct, and, as a law-abiding Italian-American, which I am, makes me cringe. Whether the offender is an athlete, non- athlete, male, female, graduate student or whatever, these activities cannot co-exist FROM THE WEBSITE What 2012 game has Notre Dame fans most worried? According to our message board, just about every one. Nd4life4: If we had to pick three losses this year, I think everyone would agree with Oklahoma, USC and either Michigan or Michigan State … If you had to pick one game you're most worried about, what would it be? I'm worried about Purdue because it's so important to start 2-0. I could also pick BYU and for some reason I am a little worried about Miami. Simm: Michigan. We outplayed them the last three years yet lost to an inferior ballclub. No ND player has ever gone 0-4 vs. Michigan. We need to end this streak against a player that has dominated us. Febiv: There is no telling how the travel to Ireland and certain teams — Syracuse, Navy, Tulsa, UConn, USF — it can get beaten by anyone at any time. When Ara or Lou lost, there was shock; today, there is resignation. Zephler: Not even close — Michigan State. Win and CarterND: I may be alone on this, but it's BYU. Risksorter: Until ND proves it can once again defeat BE HEARD! Send your letters to: Letters Blue & Gold Illustrated P. O. Box 1007 Notre Dame, IN 46556 or e-mail to: lsomogyi@blueandgold.com John Arado there is no way we lose to Michigan at home and at night with momentum from a 3-0 start. When is the last tine we were 4-0 in September? (Editor's note: 2002.) My point exactly. Lose and we are back to 8-4 or some other meaningless record. CraigR: Stanford, anyone? Are you forgetting all the back will affect this team … the recent years should have taught us that nothing is certain, and we don't want anymore USF-type surprises. GIGA: The first one. When we get past Navy, feel free to ask the question again. guys starting are Harbaugh recruits? CactusMike: Until ND proves differently, I worry about every opponent. The 1988-93 days are loooooong gone. 18BlueAndGold85: The team I am most worried about is ND beating themselves. AUGUST 2012 12
