Nineteen different teams contributed to Notre Dame's small step forward in the Directors' Cup standings BALANCED ATTACK season in the yearly competition that mea- sures a school's success across all of its ath- letic programs. I YEAR IN REVIEW women's basketball, men's lacrosse and fenc- ing — reached the final four of their respec- tive sports, and 16 others made it far enough in postseason play to register points in the scoring system set up by the National As- sociation of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. They combined to score 843.5 points, which was the highest total of any Big East school and among the top five schools in the North- ern half of the country.
